Steady power supply must be ensured to make electrification drive successful in India
New Delhi: New consumers are adding per day under various electrification schemes in India but this will not make electrification drive truly successful until and unless we do not have sufficient and steady power supply for households said by senior World Bank economist.
Universal electrification without ensuring reliability is a wasted opportunity. It is very important that connected households receive adequate level of services because the size of the benefits of electrification depends on the reliability of electricity supply. The impact of power shortages for rural households and firms is the second largest economic cost for India. India has achieved 100% village electrification but as far as access to electricity at rural household level, it is still 81%.
Government of India plans to achieve universal household electrification under Saubhagya scheme launched in 2017. One-lakh households are being added to electricity grid everyday under the Saubhagya scheme said by Power Minister R.K Singh. Therefore, we have to plan accordingly to ensure reliable and steady power supply to make the scheme successful.
